Required Hardware

Instructions - Firmware version Check

STEP 1

Connect the battery (or power supply) to the RTU power port.

STEP 2

Connect the BIC RF Programmer to the PC Port (of the RTU) and the USB cable to your laptop

STEP 3

Check the Comm port of the RF Programmer

Note:

  1. Open the “Run” dialog box by pressing and holding the Windows key, then press the R key (“Run”).
  2. Type devmgmt.msc
  3. Click OK.
  4. Scroll to Ports (COM & LPT)

OR

  1. Press the Windows key, then type "Device Manager"
  2. Press ENTER
  3. Scroll to Ports (COM & LPT)

STEP 4

Note: For RTU ECO - Use Workbench for RTU ECO

Note2: For RTU MODULAR - USE Workbench for RTU MODULAR

Note3: For RTU MASTER - Use Docklight

Download / Open the Workbench software (no is installation required).

  • Select the used COM Port
  • Click on START

The Descriptor will show the current Firmware version of the RTU (e.g. V3.9).

Instructions - Firmware version Update

Note: Before firmware update - In the Workbench Software - Click on STOP and close the program.

STEP 1

Disconnect the power supply plug from the RTU RF Eco hardware.

STEP 2

Connect the RF programmer device to the PC (2) and to the PC Socket on RTU RF EcoG5 (3) card as described on figure 2

STEP 3

Connect the power supply plug to the RTU RF Eco card.

STEP 4

Open the CBoot software.

Select the COM PORT in the Cboot software. (The COM/SERIAL Port will be the same as before - For Workbench).

Press LOAD and select the firmware file (.HEX)

Note: The .Hex file can be downloaded from the beginning of this tutorial.

STEP 5

Activate the Load mode of the RTU RF - This action turns the RTU RF mode to Load Mode.

  • Press and hold the BOOT button -> Then press the RESET button -> Leave the RESET button (first!) then the leave the BOOT button.!

In Load Mode, the BOOT LED is on.

STEP 6

Click on CBoot->PROGRAM button.

The upgrading process will start. Progress indicator will appear on screen (Pointer 5). At the end of the upgrading firmware version process a Terminated word will appear.

STEP 7

Finally, click EXIT for close the CBoot software.

Note: For RTU ECO - Use Workbench for RTU ECO

Note2: For RTU MODULAR - USE Workbench for RTU MODULAR

Before Update - Firmware version - V3.9

After Update - Firmware version - V4.8

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Communication error

Check the Boot LED (is the LED on?) on the RTU RF

No - Press and hold the BOOT button -> Then press the RESET button -> Leave the RESET button (first!) then the leave the BOOT button.!

Yes - Disconnect the battery and the programmer from the RTU. Then repeat the update process.

Note: Double check the COM/SERIAL port.
