Zurn Wilkins - 460 Series - Backflow Preventer

The innovative design protects against spillage that a normal Pressure Vacuum Breaker exhibits during start-up, allowing for indoor installation. The air inlet closes before the check valve opens. Wilkins’ designs continue to set the standard in water control products and the Model 460 Spill Resistant Pressure Vacuum Breaker is evidence of this continued effort. With unique design features, the 460 has unsurpassed reliability and in-line maintainability of any valve in its class. A Phillips screwdriver is all that is needed to work on the 460 - the bonnet tool and seat tool are built into the canopy and bonnet of the valve. The internal cartridge pulls out of the body with no threading, making the 460 the easiest-to-maintain SPVB on the market. Currently available in 15, 20 and 25mm.

Typical Application

Designed for installation on indoor and outdoor point-of-use applications to protect against back siphonage of contaminated water into the water supply. During startup and operation, a separate diaphragm seals the air inlet from the water supply preventing spillage. The assembly is designed for use under constant pressure and provides protection where a potential health hazard exists.

Typical Installation

Local codes shall govern installation requirements. Unless otherwise specified, the assembly shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions and the latest version of the Uniform Plumbing Code. The critical level mark on the assembly shall be mounted at a minimum of 12” (305mm) above the highest downstream piping or outlet. Install with sufficient side clearance for testing and maintenance. The installation shall ensure that no part of the assembly can be submerged. A spill-resistant pressure vacuum breaker cannot be installed where back pressure could occur
